About the Host
so what’s in a name.
As a name, “The Host” came from the old Gaelic traditions. “The Host” in lore, were in fact the Faerie Host or Sluagh Sidhe. Also known as the “Hidden Folk” or Aes Sídh in the Irish, The Host were the people of the mounds and playful spirits of the air.
Closer to these realms, “The Host” (Shane’s backing band), come in many shapes and lineups; are an eclectic group of musicians that play exciting and contemporary Irish, Appalachian, folk n Roll, drifting from acoustic punk to blues. All things being equal – “Celtic Soul” with an alternative “Dark Folk” roots feel – might best sum it all up!
LESSONS IN LIGHT
Recorded between Passau and Vienna, the album (CD edition) contains fourteen songs, and takes Shane and The Host on a trip down the Appalachian trail.
Delving deeper into the Irish Appalachian tradition, Shane and crew set out to explore the unique musical relationship between Ireland, Europe and North America. A relationship forged through culture and chaos, community and tradition.
“Shane Ó Fearghail & The Host are one of those bands that grabs you from the first minute and won’t let go. Up-tempo, crowd engaging and full of Celtic Soul – Shane & The Host are a must-see live band!” Harald Neger ~ Donauinselfest / We Serve You Better.
