Mountain Moments

Mountain moments indeed… And what an incredible setting it was. Perched at 2,300 metres above sea level and  balanced neatly on top of a rocky outcrop, twas myself, Cloudier Heidegger and about 150 other Irish people joined us for a blistering set of original tunes which were also accompanied by some funky and unusual covers. Our special guest for the afternoon was Andrea Smith of the Irish Independent, who gave us a vivacious as well as calm rendition of Jimmy McCarthy’s Katie. The atmosphere was light even though the air was thin, as we played out to some old and some new skiers who were nursing sore heads as well as sore feet… before they made their final descent down a pretty big mountain.

The event was held as part of the Today FM/Top-flight winter season break. Other acts on the weeks bill were the now legendary Marvin and the grooves, Paddy Casey, Declan O’Rourke, Mundy and Wallis Bird.  Safe to say no one slept and no one was disappointed.

All was wrapped up by an impromptu session on yet another mountain on the last night where we all played to staff and crew. The plan was, eat some food, chill out and chat but as soon as we finished… Low and behold somebody produced a guitar and a mandolin. Mundy took the lead and the rest as they say… is folk and roll! A huge shout out to all the Musicians, skiers, helpers and team for a wonderful event. It was great to be a part of it and you treated us all like stars!  Aileen, Paul and Trudy… Truly legends!
